Last month, Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, was charged with two misdemeanor tax charges and a felony gun charge. The misdemeanor charges will be plead guilty to, while the felony charge will be entered into a diversion program.
The U.S. attorney in charge of the federal investigation into Hunter Biden, David Weiss, has released a letter to Congress that states he was assured by Justice Department officials that he would be authorized to bring charges in jurisdictions outside of Delaware.
The national press was recently consumed by House Republican claims that there was a cover-up in the investigation of Hunter Biden and that the investigation had been shut down by DOJ political appointees. Weiss wrote a letter to Senate Judiciary Ranking Member Lindsey Graham to clarify the misperception and to avoid future confusion connected to the claims by IRS agents who worked on the Hunter Biden matter.
Despite very little evidence that any of the claims were true, the claims centered on Weiss, who was put forward as a muzzled, reluctant figure. The whole saga seemed to have come to a conclusion, but has now ramped back up again.
The outcome of the investigation into Hunter Biden remains to be seen, but the claims of a cover-up have yet to be substantiated.
