Twelve Homes in Rolling Hills Estates Evacuated After Massive Landslide

Residents of Rolling Hills Estates in Los Angeles County were forced to evacuate their homes late Saturday night due to a massive landslide. The Los Angeles County Fire Department issued an evacuation order for twelve homes along Peartree Lane, which were at risk of collapsing into a canyon.

Janice Hahn, chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, tweeted pictures from the neighborhood and said, “Homes have been pulled off their foundations.” Video tweeted by the Los Angeles County Fire Department showed homes on Pear Tree Lane, some with roofs and garages caved in.

The land is continuing to move, but the evacuation order remains limited to these twelve homes. The gated community, south of downtown Los Angeles, is expecting more homes to be affected by the landslide.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department is working with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works to assess the situation and determine the best course of action. They are also working with the Red Cross to provide assistance to those affected by the landslide.

The cause of the landslide is still under investigation. In the meantime, residents of Rolling Hills Estates are urged to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of local authorities.
