Pop star Britney Spears has spoken out about a traumatic experience she had with NBA star Victor Wembanyama’s security team in Las Vegas on Wednesday night.
In a statement posted to Twitter on Thursday, Spears said she first spotted Wembanyama in her Las Vegas hotel lobby as she was headed to dinner. She said she approached him to “congratulate him on his success” after the San Antonio Spurs first-round draft pick.
Later that night, she said she saw him at a restaurant in a different hotel. “It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention,” the singer wrote.
However, Spears said that Wembanyama’s security team then “back handed me in the face without looking back, in front of a lot of people.”
The pop star said she was left feeling “frightened and embarrassed” by the incident. She added that she was “not prepared for what happened to me last night” and that “traumatic experiences are not new to me and I have had my fair share of them.”
Spears concluded her statement by saying that she hopes her experience will serve as a reminder to be aware of the people around us and to always be kind.
