According to a police report, Rep. Khan was taking pictures with her family outside the building when Desmond approached her and made lewd comments. He then attempted to kiss her and subsequently struck her and threw her to the ground. Desmond was detained by civilians at the scene and was later arrested.
At his arraignment on Thursday, Desmond was ordered held in lieu of $250,000 bond. Rep. Khan is the first Muslim to be elected to Connecticut’s House of Representatives.
