Legendary Actor Alan Arkin Passes Away at 86, Leaving Behind a Lasting Legacy of Iconic Performances

Legendary actor Alan Arkin has passed away at the age of 86. Arkin was best known for his Academy Award-winning role in the 2006 film “Little Miss Sunshine,” for which he won the Best Supporting Actor trophy.

Arkin began his career in theater before transitioning to television and film roles. He was nominated for Best Actor in 1969 for “The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter,” and was again nominated for “Argo” in 2013. He also starred in films such as “Edward Scissorhands” and “Argo,” and series like “BoJack Horseman.”

Arkin’s sons Adam, Matthew and Anthony confirmed his death to People in a statement Friday. “Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man,” they said. “A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed.”

Arkin’s most recent role was on Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method,” where he earned two Emmy nominations for supporting actor in a comedy series. He was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011.
