The U.S. Coast Guard is holding a news briefing Tuesday afternoon to provide an update on the search for a submersible that went missing while carrying five people to the wreckage of the Titanic.

The submersible was carrying British explorer Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, and French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet. Richard Garriott de Cayeux, the president of the The Explorers Club, said in a statement that Harding was a founding member of the professional society’s Board of Trustees.

The Canadian research vessel lost contact with the sub during a dive Sunday morning about 900 miles east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and U.S. and Canadian authorities have been searching for it. During a press conference Monday, the Coast Guard said the last recorded communication from the sub was “We are very grateful for the concern being shown by our colleagues and friends and would like to request privacy at this time.”

The family of Shahzada Dawood has confirmed that he and his son Suleman were aboard the submersible. The Coast Guard is continuing to search for the submersible and the five people aboard.

The Explorers Club, the family of Shahzada Dawood, and the U.S. Coast Guard have all expressed their hope that the submersible is located as quickly as possible and the crew is safe. The Coast Guard will provide an update on the search during their news briefing Tuesday afternoon.
