Biden Administration Warns of Deepening Military Partnership Between Iran and Russia

The Biden administration has released new intelligence Friday warning of a deepening military partnership between Iran and Russia. According to the declassified intelligence, Iran has been sending materials to Russia to help build a domestic facility that the U.S. believes will be used to build drones intended for Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

The administration also released a graphic illustrating the transportation path for what it said were “hundreds” of attack drones that had already been shipped. The White House said that Tehran provided hundreds of armed drones to Russia last month for Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

The satellite photo released by the administration shows the planned location of a drone production plant in the Alabuga special economic zone in the Russian republic of Tatarstan. The drone manufacturing plant could be operational as soon as next year, the White House said.

The Biden administration’s warning of a deepening military partnership between Iran and Russia comes as the two countries continue to strengthen their ties. The U.S. is concerned that the drone production plant could be used to further Moscow’s war in Ukraine, and is urging both countries to end their military cooperation.
