Prince George’s County police have arrested a mother and daughter in connection with the murder of a 71-year-old woman in Maryland.

Candace Craig, 44, and her 19-year-old daughter Salia Hardy were taken into custody on Saturday after police responded to a welfare check at a home in the 200 block of Hill Road.

When they arrived at the property at around 1:30 p.m. local time, Candace Craig answered the door and allowed the officers inside. The victim, Margaret Craig, was found dead in the home.

Candace Craig has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, while her daughter Salia Hardy has been charged with being an accessory after the fact.

The police department said in a news release that they had received a 911 call from an unidentified person who shared concern for Margaret Craig’s welfare, saying they had not heard from her in several days.

The investigation is ongoing and further details have not been released.
