Former President Donald Trump suggested Monday that he may soon be charged in the Department of Justice’s investigation into his handling of classified documents.
In a post on his Truth Social account, Trump wrote in all caps, “How can DOJ possibly charge me, who did nothing wrong, when no other president’s [sic] were charged?” He noted that Hillary Clinton was investigated by the FBI for having classified information on her private email server and “wasn’t even close to being charged!”
Trump’s message came shortly after three of his lawyers — James Trusty, John Rowley and Lindsey Halligan — were seen leaving the Justice Department. The Washington Post and The New York Times reported that the trio had met with special counsel John Durham, who is leading the investigation into the handling of classified documents.
The investigation is looking into whether Trump or any of his aides mishandled classified information related to national security. It is unclear what, if any, charges Trump may face as a result of the investigation.
Trump’s post on Monday was the latest in a series of tweets and statements he has made about the investigation. He has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and has accused the Justice Department of targeting him for political reasons.
