She was struck twice in her right buttock and once in the back, impacting her left abdomen.

Washington said that she didn’t even see the shooter and tried to keep her friends calm, even as she was bleeding. The incident occurred when her teammate, 21-year-old Heather Roth, mistakenly opened the door of the wrong car. Roth then saw a stranger in the passenger seat and quickly left the car to join her teammates in her own vehicle.

Washington said that she was texting and eating at the time of the incident and that she tried to stay calm. She was taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries, which were initially considered life-threatening. She is now recovering and is thankful for the support she has received from her family, friends, and community.
