GOP Rep. James Comer Confirms Existence of FBI Record Alleging Bribery Scheme Involving Former Vice President Joe Biden

In a statement released Wednesday, GOP Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, the chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, confirmed that FBI Director Christopher Wray had revealed the existence of an unclassified record containing reports of an alleged bribery scheme related to then-Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign national.

Comer and Senate Judiciary Ranking Member Chuck Grassley wrote a letter to Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland in early May, expressing their belief that the form “describes an alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national relating to the exchange of money.”

Grassley spoke on Fox News Thursday morning, saying that the lawmakers were not interested in determining the accuracy of the allegations against Biden, but rather ensuring that the FBI was doing its job.

The two GOP lawmakers spoke to Wray on Wednesday about their demand for the FBI to provide them with the June 2020 form, which was created by an FBI line agent and memorializes the tip.

The House Oversight and Accountability Committee is currently investigating the matter, and Comer has said that he believes the FBI record contains “a precise description of how the alleged criminal scheme was employed as well as its purpose.” It is unclear at this time what the outcome of the investigation will be.
