A shocking incident of gun violence occurred on a Charlotte, North Carolina bus earlier this month, leaving both the driver and a passenger seriously injured. Surveillance footage released by the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) shows the altercation between the driver, David Fullard, and the passenger, Omarri Tobias, that led to the exchange of gunfire.

The incident began when Tobias asked Fullard to let him off between stops. When Fullard refused, an argument ensued. In the video, Tobias can be seen telling Fullard, “I dare you, touch me.” The altercation quickly escalated, and both men pulled out guns and began shooting at each other. Bullets broke through the shield that separates the driver from passengers, and the bus was left with bullet holes.

CATS Interim CEO Brent Cagle said in a news conference that the incident was “unacceptable” and that the organization is “committed to providing safe and reliable service to our customers.” Cagle also said that CATS is working with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to investigate the incident and take appropriate action.

Fullard and Tobias were both taken to the hospital with serious injuries. It is unclear if either of them will face criminal charges. In the meantime, CATS is reminding passengers that weapons are not allowed on their buses and that they should report any suspicious activity to the driver or to the police.
