On Sunday evening, a six-story apartment building in Davenport, Iowa partially collapsed, prompting a rescue effort by fire crews. Seven people were rescued and more than a dozen others were able to self-evacuate.

Davenport Fire Chief Mike Carlsten said that a portion of the rear building had separated from the building, and that there was a large natural gas leak and water leaking from each floor. Mayor Mike Matsen said that there were “several people unaccounted for,” but did not give a specific number.

Emergency crews worked through the night to search the rubble for any unaccounted-for individuals. Fire crews were also working to contain the natural gas leak and to make sure the building was structurally sound.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation. No fatalities have been reported at this time. The city of Davenport has set up a hotline for anyone with questions or concerns about the collapse.
