The shooting happened around 5 p.m. local time, resulting in three fatalities and five victims who were transported to hospitals in Denver, Albuquerque and nearby Taos. New Mexico State Police said one of the wounded was flown to Denver for treatment.

The annual motorcycle rally drew about 20,000 bikers to the town. Red River is a resort town located in the northern part of the state, near the Colorado border.
