On Monday morning, two staff members at Rep. Gerry Connolly’s (D-VA) district office in Fairfax were attacked by a person armed with a baseball bat, according to a statement released by the congressman.

The individual, who asked for Connolly by name before committing the act of violence, is now in police custody. Both members of Connolly’s team were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“Right now, our focus is on ensuring they are receiving the care they need,” Connolly said in a statement that praised his staff as “the best team in Congress.”

The Fairfax Police Department is investigating the incident and have yet to release the identity of the suspect or the victims.

Connolly’s office is located in the heart of Fairfax County and serves as a hub for constituents to access services and resources.

“My District Office staff make themselves available to constituents and members of the public,” Connolly said in a statement. “I am grateful for their dedication and service.”

The attack has sent shockwaves throughout the community and many are calling for an increased police presence in the area. Connolly has yet to comment on the matter.
