China’s Special Envoy to Europe Visits Ukraine, Russia and European Countries in Diplomatic Offensive to Secure Support for Ukraine’s Military

This week, China’s special envoy to Europe is expected to visit Ukraine, Russia, and a number of European countries as Beijing seeks to play a role in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is currently on a diplomatic offensive, visiting European capitals to secure support for his military’s long-awaited assault against Russian forces on the battlefield. On Monday, Zelenskyy was in London, where he was greeted by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Chequers, the British leader’s official country retreat.

During his visit, Zelenskyy secured new military aid from France and Germany, while his troops appeared to deal the Kremlin new blows on the ground and in the air. Meanwhile, Moscow’s army suffered further losses around the eastern city of Bakhmut and its air force lost as many as four aircraft.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Sunak praised Ukraine’s bravery and fortitude, saying it was an inspiration to them all. He also promised to give Ukraine hundreds more missiles and attack drones in an effort to change the course of the war.

The visit comes as tensions between Ukraine and Russia remain high, and as China seeks to play a role in the conflict. It is unclear what role China will play in the conflict, but it is clear that the diplomatic offensive by President Zelenskyy is an important step in securing support for Ukraine’s military.
