Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) returned to the Senate floor on Wednesday afternoon after a nearly three-month absence due to health issues. Feinstein was assisted into a wheelchair and greeted by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. upon her arrival.

Feinstein had been absent from the Senate since late February when she was diagnosed and later hospitalized for shingles. During her absence, Feinstein missed 91 floor votes and two votes that were held earlier Wednesday before her arrival, according to an NBC News tally.

In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, Feinstein said that she feels “much better,” but she did not answer questions about why she decided to return or respond to calls from critics to resign.

Feinstein’s presence is crucial to move President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees to the floor, as she sits on the Judiciary Committee. Her return to the Senate floor marks a significant milestone in her recovery and a return to her duties as a Senator.
