The investigation, conducted by the House General Investigative Committee, found that Slaton, 45, had engaged in sexual harassment and retaliation against the intern, as well as providing her with alcohol and demanding her silence.
Matt Rinaldi, chair of the Republican Party of Texas, said in a statement that Slaton had resigned from office effective immediately, one day before the House was set to vote on expelling him.
The report, released on Saturday, detailed the inappropriate behavior of Slaton, who is married, and included witness testimony from the intern and other staff members. It concluded that Slaton had violated House rules and should be expelled.
Slaton did not mention the investigation or the upcoming vote in his letter of resignation to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R).
