On Saturday, thousands of people gathered in London to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. Despite a cloudy sky and drizzling rain, people camped out overnight or arrived early in the morning to join the festivities. Among them were Bryant and Alicia, friends from Mobile, Alabama who arrived in London on Thursday.

Unfortunately, the aunt of Debbie Hoover, a Texas woman who was also in the crowd near Buckingham Palace on Friday, was unable to attend. She lives in Tennessee and had broken her leg, preventing her from flying to the U.K. for the ceremony.

However, the aunt’s disappointment was eased when Princess of Wales Kate Middleton called her on the phone to check in. In a video posted by BBC News correspondent Chi Chi Izundu, Kate is seen speaking on the phone, asking, “Are you feeling OK?”

Alicia, who had been following the royal family since Will and Kate’s wedding, was thrilled to be able to attend the coronation. She told CBS News, “I was anticipating the coronation one day, and so she came with me.”

The coronation of King Charles III was a momentous occasion, and the thousands of people who attended the festivities were able to witness history in the making. Despite the disappointment of some who were unable to attend, the celebration was a success.
