A 21-year-old former UC Davis student, Carlos Dominguez, pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder in Yolo County Superior Court on Friday. Judge Daniel Wolk denied bail to Dominguez, citing the risk to public safety and the defendant’s own flight risk given the seriousness of the alleged crimes.
Dominguez is accused of “willful, deliberate and premeditated murder” and attempted murder, as well as use of a deadly weapon, according to court documents filed in Yolo County. He is eligible for a life prison term without the possibility of parole or the death penalty, given the multiple murders.
The stabbings occurred in the college community of Davis, and Dominguez was arrested on Thursday. Three people were injured in the incident, and two of them died.
The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case. They have not yet released any further details about the incident or the victims.
The investigation is ongoing, and Dominguez is scheduled to appear in court again on August 28th. He is currently being held in the Yolo County Jail without bail.
