Three Colorado High School Students Charged with First-Degree Murder in Death of 20-Year-Old Alexa Bartell

Three Colorado high school students have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Alexa Bartell. The suspects, Joseph Koenig, Nicholas “Mitch” Karol-Chik and Zachary Kwak, appeared in Jefferson County Court on Wednesday and faced several additional charges than the ones initially brought against them when they were arrested last month.

According to the First Judicial District Attorney Alexis King, the suspects have each been charged with first-degree murder involving extreme indifference and 12 other counts. The charges stem from an incident on April 19 when the suspects allegedly threw a large landscaping rock at Bartell’s car, which went through the windshield and killed her.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said that Bartell was killed while she was driving and talking on the phone with her friend. In addition to the first-degree murder with indifference charges, the suspects are also facing attempted murder charges and multiple counts of assault and attempted assault.

The incident has shocked the community, and many are mourning the loss of Bartell. The suspects are currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail and are awaiting trial. It is unclear at this time what the outcome of the trial will be.

The case is still under investigation and more information is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
