A Fairfax County police officer had a close call on Monday when an out-of-control car went speeding through a median, across the opposite lane and into a car that the officer had pulled over as well as the police cruiser.
The officer, who was not named, was speaking to the driver of a BMW 7 Series that was going 73 mph in a 50 mph zone when another BMW careened toward him, backside first, at more than 120 mph. The officer was able to jump out of the way and miraculously only suffered minor injuries.
At a press conference, Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said that the officer was “nearly killed” in the incident. He added that it was “miraculous” that the officer only suffered minor injuries.
The Fairfax County Police Department released dashcam footage of the incident on Tuesday. The footage shows the officer jumping out of the way of the speeding car just in time.
