Polina Ivanova, who worked in Russia for the Financial Times, is one of the organizers of the letter-writing campaign. She said the letters are meant to keep Gershkovich’s spirits high and let him know he is not alone.
“We’re trying to make sure he knows that he’s not forgotten,” Ivanova said. “We’re trying to make sure that he knows that he’s not alone.”
