A decades-old murder case in Florida has finally come to a close after Sheila Keen-Warren, 59, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a plea deal that will likely see her released from prison in no more than two years.

Keen-Warren had been jailed awaiting trial for first-degree murder since 2017, when Palm Beach County sheriff’s investigators said improvements in DNA technology proved that a hair found in the clown’s getaway car came from her.

The case dates back to 1990, when a clown came to Marlene Warren’s door on a May morning, handed her carnations and balloons and then shot her dead in front of her son. Long suspected of being the shooter, Keen-Warren had been a suspect in the case for years.

The family of Marlene Warren agreed to the plea deal, CBS affiliate WPEC-TV reported. Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg said in a statement that the plea deal “obtained a measure of justice for the victim and her family.”

The case has been a strange one, even by Florida standards. After almost thirty years, the family of Marlene Warren can finally have closure knowing that the person responsible for her death has been brought to justice.
