Peel Regional Police Investigating Theft of Cargo Container Carrying $15 Million in Gold and Valuables from Toronto Pearson International Airport

Peel Regional Police are investigating the theft of a cargo container carrying nearly $15 million in gold and other valuables from Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The container, which contained gold and other “high value” items worth at least $20 million Canadian (more than $14.8 million U.S.), was stolen on Monday. The aircraft carrying the cargo was unloaded and the container was transported to a holding facility in accordance with the airport’s standard procedures.

Inspector Stephen Duivesteyn said that the container was then “removed by illegal means” and reported missing to the police shortly afterward. It is not clear exactly how much gold was inside the cargo container or what other items were included.

The Peel Regional Police have launched an investigation into the theft. They are asking anyone with information about the theft to contact them. They are also asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity at the airport to come forward.
