A Brooklyn woman was sentenced to 21 years in prison Wednesday for attempting to kill her lookalike friend with a poisoned cheesecake. Viktoria Nasyrova, 47, was found guilty of attempted murder and other counts in the 2016 attempted poisoning.
Prosecutors said Nasyrova hoped to kill Olga Svyk with a cheesecake laced with a potentially fatal drug so she could steal Svyk’s identity, passport and other documents and return to Russia. The chemical was determined to be phenazepam, a benzodiazepine developed by the Soviet Union.
Nasyrova visited the Queens apartment of the then-35-year-old victim in 2016, cheesecake in hand. According to prosecutors, the sedative was a powerful toxin found only in Russia, which is where Nasyrova is from.
The jury deliberated for two days before convicting Nasyrova of attempted murder, burglary, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. She was sentenced to 21 years in prison on Wednesday.
The Queens district attorney’s office said the case was a reminder that “no matter how bizarre the circumstances, justice will be served.”
