Four people were killed and 32 injured in a shooting at a Sweet 16 birthday party in Dadeville, Alabama on Saturday night. On Wednesday, authorities announced the arrest of two teenage brothers in connection with the shooting.
The suspects, Ty Reik McCullough, 17, and Travis McCullough, 16, both of Tuskegee, were taken into custody on Tuesday night and charged with four counts of reckless murder, according to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sgt. Jeremy Burkett.
At a morning press conference, Burkett said the suspects were arrested Tuesday night and would be charged as adults.
“This is Alabama, and when you pull out a gun and you start shooting people, we’re going to put you in jail,” Burkett said.
The shooting occurred at 10:34 p.m. Saturday at a dance studio on Broadnax Street in Dadeville, where friends and family were celebrating the birthday of a 16-year-old girl. An FBI spokesperson said the suspects are brothers.
The tragedy has left the small town of Dadeville reeling. “It’s a sad day for our community,” said Mayor Johnnie Johnson. “Our hearts go out to the families of the victims and we are doing everything we can to support them.”
