- The trial has been delayed one day to allow the parties one last chance to reach a settlement.
Fox News has revealed that Dominion Voting Systems has dropped more than half a billion dollars from its original damages claim against the network.
Fox News said in a court filing Sunday that Dominion Voting Systems had reduced its damages claim from $1.6 billion to $1 billion. The $600 million was for lost future profits, whereas the remaining $1 billion was for lost “enterprise value.”
A Fox spokesperson said in a statement Monday that “Dominion’s damages are wildly inflated which Dominion has now finally admitted at the 11th hour.”
The trial, which was supposed to begin today, was delayed one day to allow the parties one last chance to reach a settlement. The company filed suit in 2021, arguing that Fox News defamed the company by airing false claims about its voting machines.
Dominion gave a statement to the Washington Post confirming that the $600 million part of the claim had been withdrawn. The filing was a request to the court for clarification about evidence the network can present to the jury related to the question of damages.
It remains to be seen whether the parties will reach a settlement or proceed to trial. The trial is now scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
