Fox News Apologizes to Judge in Dominion Voting Systems Defamation Case, Admits to “Misunderstanding” Regarding Rupert Murdoch’s Role

Fox News has formally apologized to the judge in the Dominion Voting Systems defamation case, admitting to a “misunderstanding” regarding Rupert Murdoch’s role at the network that led the judge to launch an investigation into potential legal misconduct by Fox.

In a letter dated Friday and filed with the court, Fox attorney Blake Rohrbacher said the right-wing network “never intended to omit information” and that its inaccurate representations about Murdoch’s formal role at Fox News were “not meant to mislead the Court or evade the question.”

Rohrbacher wrote that Fox News “understands the Court’s concerns, apologizes, and is committed to clear and full communication with the Court moving forward.” He added that the network “should have provided to the Court a more complete and accurate description of Mr. Murdoch’s role at Fox News.”

The Dominion Voting Systems trial against Fox News is set to begin Monday, a landmark defamation case that will determine whether the network can be held financially liable for publishing the false claim that voting machines rigged the 2020 election. Fox News is being sued for $1.6 billion in damages.

The case is being closely watched as it could have a major impact on the future of media law. If Fox News is found liable, it could set a precedent for other media outlets to be held accountable for their reporting.
