Ann Arbor police are investigating the death of former police oversight commissioner Jude Walton, 51, as a homicide. Walton was found dead in her Ann Arbor home on Thursday afternoon after officers conducted a welfare check.

Police said there were signs of forced entry to the home’s backdoor and “obvious signs of trauma” on Walton’s body. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday to determine the cause of death.

Walton had been the commissioner of Ann Arbor’s Independent Community Oversight Commission since its inception in 2019. She was a longtime Ann Arbor resident and had been an active member of the community.
