Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has filed a federal lawsuit against House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan and the House Judiciary Committee, accusing them of attempting to interfere in his office’s investigation and prosecution of former President Donald Trump.

The 50-page suit, filed in the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York, seeks to block the committee from enforcing a subpoena sent to Mark Pomerantz, a former Manhattan prosecutor who led the investigation into Trump for about a year before resigning in February 2022 and writing a memoir about the case.

The lawsuit also seeks to block other demands for “confidential documents and testimony from the district attorney himself as well as his current and former employees and officials.”

In the suit, Bragg alleges that the committee’s actions are part of a “transparent campaign to intimidate and attack” the district attorney and interfere in his office’s case against Trump. He claims that the committee lacks any valid legislative purpose and is instead attempting to “harass and intimidate” the district attorney and his office.

Bragg is asking the court to block the committee from enforcing the subpoena and other demands, and to declare that the committee’s actions are unlawful. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for June 15.
