The FBI is investigating a major leak of classified Pentagon documents that has been shared on social media sites including 4Chan and Discord. The Justice Department is looking into how the trove of highly sensitive documents, which include details about US intelligence and the war in Ukraine, ended up on social media.

CBS News has reviewed a number of the leaked documents, which are color printouts with text, graphics or maps that appear to have been folded, unfolded and then photographed and shared. The Biden administration is scrambling to assess and contain the fallout from the leak, which has rattled US officials, members of Congress and key allies in recent days.

The Pentagon is still reviewing the matter and has taken steps to reduce the number of people who have access to the kind of classified information that has been leaked. The Defense Department is also tightening the flow of such highly sensitive documents, which are normally available on any given day.
