Basketball star Brittney Griner is set to release a memoir detailing her “unfathomable” experience of being arrested and incarcerated in Russia. The WNBA All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist was arrested last year at the airport in Moscow on drug-related charges and detained for nearly 10 months, much of that time in prison.
Griner’s memoir, which is yet to be titled, is set to be released in spring 2024 by publisher Alfred A. Knopf. In a news release, Griner said she is now ready to share her experience.
“That day was the beginning of an unfathomable period in my life which only now am I ready to share,” Griner said.
Griner’s plight unfolded at the same time Russia invaded Ukraine and further heightened tensions between Russia and the U.S. She was eventually freed in December in a prisoner swap for notorious international arms dealer Viktor Bout.
The memoir will provide an in-depth look into Griner’s experience in Russia, and is sure to be an interesting read for fans of the basketball star.
