The 77-year-old Democrat said he was tripped by a fellow parade goer and was awaiting “routine surgery” on his femur scheduled for Sunday.
The surgery was reported to be “completely successful” and Blumenthal is expected to make a full recovery. He plans to be back at work next week. Fellow Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy tweeted that after the collision, Blumenthal “got back up, dusted himself off, and FINISHED THE PARADE.”
