Senator John Fetterman has been discharged from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after six weeks of inpatient treatment for clinical depression. The freshman Pennsylvania Democrat is now back home in Braddock with his depression “in remission.”
Fetterman’s office released a statement saying he is planning to return to the Senate when it resumes session in mid-April. His chief of staff had previously said that Fetterman was not suicidal, but was seeking treatment for his symptoms.
The Senator is also recovering from a stroke he suffered last fall, which he has said nearly killed him. His treatment for depression included medication and he is now wearing hearing aids for hearing loss.
“I am so happy to be home,” Fetterman said in a statement.
Fetterman won last fall’s most expensive Senate contest, and his office said he will return to the Senate when it returns from recess on April 17.
