On Monday, March 28th, a shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee left six people dead, including three 9-year-old children. The victims have been identified as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, William Kinney, Cynthia Peak, Mike Hill, and Katherine Koonce, the head of the school.

The shooter, 28-year-old Engelbert, was let into the school by another staffer. Footage from Engelbert’s body camera shows the officers racing down hallways lined with backpacks and children’s jackets before their confrontation with the suspect. Engelbert was then shot by police on the second floor of the school.

In response to the tragedy, a makeshift memorial was set up outside the school, filled with flowers, stuffed animals, and balloons in honor of the victims. Members of the Selected First Motorcycle Club joined others in prayer at the memorial.

Barrett Severance, a former student of the school, said, “This should not have happened.” Carolyn Lucas, a Nashville resident, echoed this sentiment, saying, “This should not have happened.”

The shooting has horrified the nation and has left many people in shock. The Covenant School has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
