Dick Van Dyke Involved in Car Accident in Malibu, California, Suffers Minor Injuries

Legendary actor Dick Van Dyke was involved in a car accident in Malibu, California, on March 15, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Van Dyke, 97, was driving alone when his car crashed into a block wall. TMZ first reported the incident, noting from sources that the actor’s nose and mouth were bleeding.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department treated Van Dyke on the scene for minor injuries. He was not taken to a hospital. The sheriff’s department said that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash, but that the rain-soaked roads may have been a factor, and that the car was “traveling at a speed which was unsafe for the present conditions.”

The sheriff’s department has submitted a request to the Department of Motor Vehicles for Van Dyke to retake a driving test. The actor is best known for his roles in “Mary Poppins” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show.” He also starred in the 1968 musical film “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.”
