On Monday, a 64-year-old woman died while hiking one of the trails at Big Bend National Park in Texas. The National Park Service (NPS) received a call at around 3:30 p.m. reporting the woman’s collapse and requesting emergency assistance.

When park rangers and a U.S. Border Patrol agent arrived at the scene, they found the woman unresponsive and immediately began CPR. A Border Patrol helicopter was called in to transport the hiker to a hospital, but unfortunately, all attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

The NPS said that while it can’t conclude that weather was a factor in the incident, March brings dangerously hot temperatures to Big Bend. The park service urged visitors to take precautions when hiking, such as carrying plenty of water and wearing appropriate clothing.

The NPS expressed its condolences to the woman’s family and friends. They said that the park staff was deeply saddened by the incident and that their thoughts and prayers were with the woman’s loved ones.
