After more than 30 years of searching, the family of Patricia Kopta has finally been reunited with the 83-year-old woman. Kopta, who was known to be an “eccentric” street preacher who went by “Sparrow,” went missing from her home north of Pittsburgh in 1992.

Ross Township Deputy Police Chief Brian Kohlhepp said that over the years, investigators had pursued leads in her disappearance. However, it wasn’t until seven years ago that Kopta was taken as a “person in need” to an adult care home in Puerto Rico.

Kopta’s family had long believed she was dead, and had declared her legally dead in 1999. But as she suffered progressively from dementia, Kopta began to divulge details of her whereabouts.

Kohlhepp said that Kopta had meandered through northern Puerto Rico for a while before she was taken to the nursing home. After her family was contacted, they were able to reunite with Kopta in Puerto Rico.

Kopta’s family is now grateful to have her back in their lives. They are thankful for the hard work of the Ross Township Police Department and their commitment to finding Kopta.
