Former Attorney Alex Murdaugh Found Guilty of Murdering His Wife and Son in South Carolina

A jury in Walterboro, South Carolina, has found former attorney Alex Murdaugh guilty of murdering his wife and son in 2021. The verdict was reached after three hours of deliberation on Thursday.

Murdaugh, a member of a prominent legal family in the South Carolina Lowcountry, was found guilty on two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The murders of his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, and his son, Paul Murdaugh, occurred at the family’s Islandton property, known as Moselle, in June 2021.

Murdaugh was represented by defense attorney Jim Griffin during the trial. Despite the guilty verdicts, Murdaugh has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to all charges.

In addition to the murder charges, Murdaugh is also facing 99 charges stemming from alleged financial crimes. He is currently being held without bond and is expected to be sentenced at a later date.
