The University of Idaho announced on Friday that the off-campus residence where four students were found dead in November 2022 will be demolished. The house, located blocks away from campus, is where Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves were found dead in the early morning of Nov. 13, 2022.
University President Scott Green said in a statement that the decision to demolish the house was made in order to take a healing step and remove the physical structure where the crime was committed. Two other roommates were home at the time of the incident, but were not harmed.
The suspected killer, Brian Kohberger, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary. The owner of the three-story King Street House has offered the property to the university.
The slayings rocked the small community of Moscow, where investigators grappled with what the town’s police chief would later describe as a “very complex” case. The university is currently working on plans to honor the four students who lost their lives in the tragedy.
