Putin and Xi Strengthen Ties During Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s Visit to Moscow

On Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi concluded a visit to Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During their meeting, Putin expressed his enthusiasm for a potential visit from Chinese President Xi Jinping. Putin also noted that the cooperation between Russia and China is “very important for stabilizing the international situation.”

The visit comes at a time of increased diplomatic activity in Europe, with US President Joe Biden making a surprise visit to Kyiv. Wang’s visit is believed to be a precursor to a meeting between Putin and Xi Jinping.

Wang also noted that “other countries cannot put pressure on our relations.” He added that the two countries are “ready to deepen our strategic partnership.” The visit comes just days before the anniversary of the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The relationship between Russia and China has been steadily growing in recent years. In December 2022, Putin and Xi held a summit in Beijing, during which they discussed strengthening ties between the two countries.
