Biden Visits Ukraine to Reaffirm US Commitment to Country’s Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity

President Joe Biden arrived in Kyiv, Ukraine on Monday for an unannounced visit, in a show of support for the country as it continues to fight against Russia’s nearly-year-long invasion.

In a statement released by the White House, Biden said, “I am in Kyiv today to meet with President Zelenskyy and reaffirm our unwavering and unflagging commitment to Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.”

Biden’s visit to the region comes as the world prepares to mark a full year since Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. During his visit, Biden praised the Ukrainian people for their resilience in the face of the conflict. He said, “The Ukrainian people have stepped up in a way that few people ever have in the past.”

Biden also emphasized that there is broad, bipartisan support in Washington for the Ukrainian cause, even as some Republicans balk at providing further assistance. He said, “For all the disagreement we have in our Congress on some issues, there is significant agreement on this: the United States must stand with Ukraine.”

The US President’s visit to Ukraine is seen as a strong show of support for the country and its people, as they continue to fight against Russia’s aggression. Biden’s visit is also a reminder of the US’s commitment to Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
