Two people are dead after a Tennessee National Guard helicopter crashed in northern Alabama on Wednesday. The crash occurred at around 3 p.m. local time directly off Highway 53 in Madison County, and the helicopter burned upon impact, according to Huntsville Emergency Medical Services.

Cell phone video showed a plume of black smoke rising hundreds of feet into the air on the side of the highway. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said in a statement that the UH-60 helicopter crashed on Alabama highway 53 near the intersection of Burwell Road.

The helicopter belonged to the Tennessee National Guard and was on a routine training mission, the National Guard Bureau confirmed to CBS News. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that there were no survivors.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division in-conjunction with deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office are assisting with securing the crash site, which is located about 10 miles northwest of Huntsville.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The names of the victims have not yet been released.
