Amsterdam Takes Steps to Improve Quality of Life for Residents with Ban on Marijuana Smoking and Discouragement of Alcohol Consumption in Red Light District

Amsterdam is taking steps to improve the quality of life for its residents by banning the use of marijuana on the street and discouraging alcohol in its red light district. The city authorities announced on Friday that they will be banning cannabis smoking in the streets of the red light district from mid-May.

The Municipality of Amsterdam said in a statement that the measure is part of their efforts to curb criminality and anti-social behavior. Residents of the old city center have been experiencing a lot of nuisance from mass tourism and alcohol and drug abuse on the street. The municipality is also cracking down on a “huge anti-social behavior” problem by restricting drinking hours and bringing forward closing times of cafes, bars, restaurants and brothels.

In addition to the ban on smoking marijuana on the street, the city is also taking steps to discourage alcohol consumption in the area. This includes increasing police presence, imposing fines for public drinking, and increasing the number of public toilets. The city is also introducing a new system to monitor and control the number of visitors to the area.
