On Wednesday morning, tragedy struck the city of Laval, Quebec, when a city bus crashed into a day care center, leaving two children dead and six others hospitalized.

The crash occurred at around 8:30 a.m., and the 51-year-old bus driver was arrested and charged with reckless driving and homicide, according to Laval Police Chief Pierre Brochet.

The incident caused a large perimeter to be set up around the building housing the day care, and panicked parents who had run to the center were diverted to a nearby elementary school. An eyewitness reported that the driver stepped out of the bus after the crash, ripped his clothes off and started screaming.

The bus driver was arrested and charged with homicide and careless driving. Dozens of police and emergency vehicles lined the blocked-off road leading to the day care.
