Father Files Federal Lawsuit Against Off-Duty Police Officer and School Security Guard for Alleged Excessive Force Against 12-Year-Old Daughter

A federal lawsuit has been filed by an Illinois father against an off-duty police officer and school security guard, Shawn Guetschow, for allegedly using excessive force against his 12-year-old daughter during a fight at a Wisconsin middle school last year.

The incident occurred on March 4, 2022 at Lincoln Middle School in Kenosha, Wisconsin. According to the lawsuit, Guetschow had broken up a fight between Jane Doe, the daughter of Jerrel Perez, and another girl in her sixth grade class in the cafeteria.

The lawsuit alleges that Guetschow used an illegal chokehold to restrain the girl, pushing his right knee into her neck and upper back. It also claims that Guetschow inflicted lasting injuries on the girl, and that his actions violated her constitutional rights.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for the physical and emotional harm caused by the incident, as well as punitive damages for Guetschow’s alleged misconduct.

The incident has sparked outrage in the community, and the family is hoping that the lawsuit will bring justice for their daughter. The family’s attorney, Michael Oppenheimer, said in a statement that “no child should ever have to experience the trauma that Jane Doe endured at the hands of an adult in a position of authority.”
