The Dallas Police Department has announced the arrest of a 24-year-old man in connection with the disappearance of two emperor tamarin monkeys from the Dallas Zoo.
Davion Irvin was taken into custody Thursday near the 1400 block of Pacific Avenue after tips from the public led investigators to the Dallas Aquarium, where he was spotted near animal exhibits.
The two monkeys, Bella and Finn, were reported stolen from their habitats at the Dallas Zoo on Monday. On Tuesday, they were found in the closet of an empty home in nearby Lancaster.
Irvin has been charged with six counts of animal cruelty.
The Dallas Zoo released a statement thanking the public for their help in finding the monkeys. “We are grateful for the assistance of the Dallas Police Department and the community in bringing these two beloved animals home,” the statement said.
The two monkeys are now back in their habitats at the Dallas Zoo and are reported to be in good health.
