A 23-year-old German-Iraqi woman is being held in a prison in Ingolstadt, Germany, in connection with the death of a 23-year-old Algerian woman, according to Ingolstadt police spokesperson Andreas Aichele. The woman and her friend are suspected of murdering the woman in order to stage her own death and start a new life.
The case, dubbed the “doppelganger murder” by local media, began when the suspect’s parents reported her missing on August 16 last year. The woman had apparently sought out a lookalike on Instagram and, with the help of a 23-year-old Kosovan man, killed her and placed her body in the suspect’s car. The car was later found in Ingolstadt with the body of the woman inside.
The suspect and her friend have now been issued arrest warrants on suspicion of murder. The Kosovan man is also in custody in connection with the murder.
The case has shocked the local community, with many questioning how the woman could have planned such a crime. Police are continuing to investigate the case and are yet to release further details.
