The Justice Department on Monday denied a request from House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan for sensitive information involving its probe into classified documents found at President Joe Biden’s home and a former office.

In a letter addressed to Rep. Jordan (R-Ohio), the department said it cannot turn over non-public files under its long-standing policy of not sharing information that could impact an ongoing probe.

The letter, obtained by NBC News, was signed by Assistant Attorney General Elizabeth Prelogar and stated that “disclosures to Congress about active investigations risk jeopardizing those investigations and creating the appearance that Congress may be exerting improper political pressure or attempting to influence Department decisions in certain cases.”

Prelogar added that disclosing non-public information about ongoing investigations could violate statutory requirements or court orders, reveal road maps of investigations, and interfere with the Department’s ability to conduct its investigations.

Despite the refusal to provide non-public information, the Justice Department said it would cooperate with the House Judiciary Committee as much as it could. The department also noted that it has already provided the committee with a significant amount of information related to the investigation.
